Zero Hour, The - Old Time Radio

Zero Hour, The

Intended to be a revival of radio theater, a genre that had petered out around 1962, The Zero Hour aired in 1973 and 1974. It was originally a syndicated program, and then Mutual Broadcasting System purchased it. Recorded in stereo sound, the Hollywood-based series attracted many notable stars from radio and television.

Rod Serling, typically remembered for television's "The Twilight Zone", hosted The Zero Hour. Even though he is recognized as an imaginative and charismatic television star, it is good to know his writing and acting roots were planted in radio, dating back to 1946 when he began volunteering as a writer and actor at WNYC Radio. He worked diligently at his craft, and made his way up the career ladder to stardom, earning admiration and respect for his creative talents and well-honed skills.

The Zero Hour aired five times a week with each story divided into consecutive chapters. Listeners would tune in every weekday, and learn the stories' outcomes each Friday. Later on, story lines were condensed into one 30-minute episode.
